We booked for two nights, one on our outward trip and the second on our return. On arriving at Russ Hill Hotel my initial impression was that the reception area was lovely and that we had made a good choice. Unfortunately, on finding our bedroom, having wandered along pretty cold corridors, we were disappointed to discover a very poor standard of bedroom, certainly not 3*, perhaps 2* at a push and a definite contrast from the reception area. The bar was fine and we had an acceptable bar meal. On our return trip I was totally disappointed to be allocated an even poorer standard of room which would have been lucky to get a 1* in anyone's book. The compact size of the en-suite has to be seen to be believed and made comfortable showering nigh on impossible! Breakfast was fine but pricey at £9.95 for the cooked breakfast. We used the courtesy coach which was fine on the way to the airport but from the airport to hotel you could end up with a lenghty wait depending on when you cleared the airport, as buses only run once an hour in the evening. I think the star rating for this hotel needs to be reassessed, as going beyond initial impressions at reception there is no way the hotel bedrooms we saw could begin to warrant 3*. I thought I had got a bargain, but I guess you get what you pay for.
You get what you pay for...the price was only a fraction of other hotel prices, but the room was very small and a little shabby. That said, it was perfectly clean. The bar and restaurant stay open until late (usefull if, like us, you travel after a day's work) and has a good choice, and the restaurant staff are very friendly.
